Can You Benefit by Using Fish Oil Supplements As an Anti-Inflammatory and Pain Killer?

More and more studies are coming out showing the benefits of taking fish oil supplements as an anti-inflammatory and pain killer. This is in line with the long list of already known benefits of supplementing with fish oils rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

Let me explain some of the many benefits of omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil is the best source). Inflammation is present in many diseases such as arthritis, bursitis, and tendinitis, inflammation is what causes the pain in most of these cases. Joint pain in your hands, knees and elsewhere in many cases is caused by inflammation in your joints and over time this can lead to arthritis. Prescription pain killers for joint pain such as COX-2 inhibitors (Celebrex, etc.) have been used by many people to treat arthritis, but there have been recent news stories in the last several years linking them to serious side effects, even in some cases death.

I think this has made many people look to other ways to treat this condition and fish oil supplements as an anti-inflammatory and pain killer is becoming very popular alternative. The omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil has potent anti-inflammatory properties. It can bring about pain relief by bringing down inflammation in the joints. Many studies have shown that people with mild to moderate arthritis can get the most pain relief.

However, using fish oil supplements as an anti-inflammatory and pain killer in cases where there is severe pain will probably not lead to a dramatic relief of pain. But, the omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil have so many other proven health benefits especially regarding heart health that in my opinion most everyone should be taking them on a daily basis.
